The Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) is a semi-autonomous government agency mandated to promote and facilitate both foreign and domestic investment in Uganda. Established by an Act of Parliament in 1991, the UIA operates under the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development.
Location
The UIA headquarters are located at the Uganda Business Facilitation Centre, Plot 1 Baskerville Avenue, Kololo, Kampala. Its geographical coordinates are 0.3291° N, 32.5988° E.[3]
Mandate and Functions
UIA's core mission is to:
- Promote Uganda as a prime investment destination.
- Facilitate the registration and licensing of investments.
- Provide industrial and business infrastructure such as serviced industrial parks.
- Support small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
- Advocate for an improved business environment.
UIA acts as a one-stop center for investors seeking support, information, and facilitation services related to starting and operating businesses in Uganda.
Governance
The Authority is governed by a Board of Directors comprising representatives from government ministries and the private sector. As of October 2024, board members include:
