Robert Mukiza

Robert Mukiza is a Ugandan economist, investment executive, and the current Director General of the Uganda Investment Authority (UIA). He was appointed to the role on July 1, 2021. Mukiza is recognized for his role in promoting Uganda as a prime destination for both domestic and foreign investment, as well as improving transparency and efficiency within the UIA.

Early life and education

Mukiza holds a Bachelor of Science in Quantitative Economics from Makerere University. He later earned a Master of Science in International Finance and Economic Development from the University of Kent in the United Kingdom. He also completed a Strategic Leadership Programme at the Oxford Saïd Business School.

Career

Mukiza has worked in international development and investment roles for over two decades. He began his career as an economist at the UNDP in the Maldives, then served in various capacities with the United Nations in Botswana and Ethiopia. He later joined the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) as Deputy Director and African Union Representative.

Prior to joining UIA, he was also associated with Acadia Energy in Hong Kong in a directorial capacity.

As head of the Uganda Investment Authority, Mukiza has been lauded for streamlining operations and prioritizing industrial park development, including the Kampala Industrial and Business Park (KIBP) project. He was dubbed “the incorruptible” by State Minister Evelyn Anite for his commitment to integrity.

In 2024, his leadership came under scrutiny after a reported UGX 500 million payout controversy. Mukiza defended the payments as contractual project-related allowances and welcomed independent investigation.
